Prep Your Skin For Spring by Dermablading at home.
Spring is almost here! We have had the mildest Winter even by California standards but I am still looking forward to the cherry blossom trees, daffodils and baby deer that make it into my yard every year. It is time to start prepping my skin for minimal makeup and high glow. Dermablading has been around for a while now. We do it at the spa for a pretty hefty price! So I am excited to see all the new tools to get the same results from home.
I will say this isn’t quite the same as getting it done at the spa. The blading direction is different and I feel like you get a deeper exfoliation when someone else is doing it. BUT, this comes really close and is a great alternative for between spa treatments and stretching out your treatments.
First off, Dermablading is when you exfoliate using a straight razor or scalpel. It helps remove the top layer of dead flaky skin and all the soft peach fuzz that grows on the face. This makes makeup and skincare more effective. I recommend doing it once a week for normal/oily skin and once every two weeks for sensitive skin. Dermablading is the best right before bed so your skin has time to breath and soothe itself before applying makeup.
I don’t recommend dermablading with other exfoliation treatments. If you use retinol, retinoid or Retin A I would stop for 72 hours before and after dermablading.
Now the protocol:
Start by cleansing the skin. Your skin needs to be totally clean, dry and free of oils to get the best results.
Next up, create small workspaces with your free hand. Keep the skin tight between this space. I like to use tiny, downward strokes to get the best result. Move your free hand as you finish the box. (see the video below) On my cheeks, I do two passes one going towards my nose and the other towards my jawline. Go slow your first few times.
After, I like to wipe off my skin clean and then feel to make sure I didn’t miss any spots. The skin will feel rough or flaky on spots that you missed.
I finish with a hydrating water gel and cream before hopping into bed.
Skin is left flawless, glowing and soft!
