I use facial oil almost every night and every morning. When I first started I was worried that they would cause me to break out. It seems like we have been conditioned since adolescence to avoid anything with oil; that it would somehow clog our pores. The results of facial oils are often the opposite. Here are my top five favorites. Plus who should use each one, when, and how.
THE BEST FACE OILS & HOW TO USE THEM
First up, The Korres Wild Rose – This is a powerful brightening oil infused with real rose petals and boosted with super C to increase skin’s absorption of vitamin C by up to 1,000 percent to support natural collagen synthesis, and provide powerful skin brightening, tone, repair, and antioxidant protection against free radical and UV damage. Wild Rose is one of nature’s most potent forms of vitamin C, with 9x more vitamin C than orange juice. I use this because the Active Brightening Oil treats dullness and uneven skin tone/texture for brighter, radiant skin. The scent is light and does not smell like roses at all. The texture is silky and absorbs quickly while leaving the skin feeling nourished and hydrated. I apply it directly to clean skin and then top it with a moisturizer.
Elemis Superfood Facial Oil is a current favorite. The texture is heavier and perfect for dry or dehydrated skin. The active botanicals are flax seed and daikon radish. This oil leaves the skin GLOWING. The scent smells like a spa; it is really appealing. I recommend applying 4-5 drops in the hand and breathing in before massaging it into the face, neck, and chest. The Superfood Facial oil can be used every day for dry skin and a few times a week for combo/oily skin. For combo skin that is breaking out, I like to use it UNDER a detoxing mud mask. Use 1/2 a pipette, massage into the skin, and then apply a mask. This will keep the mask from overdrying the skin and the oil will help regulate sebum production.
By Terry Cellularose Lift Essence – A lighter oil that is perfect for EVERY skin type. I like this one when my skin is oily from the weather or my eating habits. The scent is super rose-based so it is a bit much for me but the results are worth it. I apply it a few times a week at night and then use my regular moisturizer. This is for skin that is starting to sag or lose its radiance. The rose will help brighten and firm. A few drops go a very long way. I usually use about three for my face, neck, and chest.
The Body Shop Oils of Life Intensely Revitalizing Facial Oil Perfect for super dry skin to normal skin. This is the heaviest of the oils listed here and smells the BEST! I use it when I travel or when it is really cold out. I use 5 drops to massage my face, neck, and chest. Use firm, upward strokes to help the oil absorb and nourish the skin. The next morning my skin is glowing and still feels hydrated. Many times I just apply SPF and tinted balm before leaving the house. My hands get dry when I do too many facials/peels in one day– this oil is AMAZING on cuticles and dry hands.
Laura Mercier Flawless Skin– I would say this is the most versatile of all my face oils. It is great for dry skin, oily, combo really any skin type. The scent is rosy but dissipates quickly. The texture is silky and absorbs really quickly. I like to use this under masks and moisturizers right before an event. It leaves my skin perfectly hydrated and dewy without looking oily. It also helps my makeup stay on longer so I use it when I am heading out at night. I usually use around 2-3 drops and press it into the skin. The texture isn’t really optimal for massage. Follow up with a moisturizer if you have dry/normal skin or primer if you have oily/combo skin.
