Winter’s hottest color trend Whiskey brown plus my favorite way to serve whiskey—The Manhattan.
Whiskey Brown Trend:
Happy New Year! 2018 was one of my favorite years of my life so I can’t wait to see what 2019 has in store. I am super excited for all the changes coming to Haute Beauty Guide. The next few months will see a new look, a new physical location + store and we are hiring! I can’t believe this little project I started back in 2008 is turning 11 this year and has grown so much. Thank you to everyone who has followed along on this adventure! The best thing about HBG is the fun connections I have made with skin care mavens, beauty addicts, and casual adventures like me.
Now to the new edit. January is all about the top color trends to round out Winter. This week is all about whiskey brown. Everywhere I look rich dark browns and tans are there. This puffer coat is on my wishlist this month and so is the gorgeous sweater dress. It has been super cold here in Monterey lately which makes me live in all things knit. Good eye cream is always a good investment for the winter cold and so are these super chic shearling sneakers. Warm up the house with a plaid throw, or deep wood accents.
Plus, I thought it would be fun to pair the color with one of my favorite drink recipes. The Manhattan is a classic and such an elegant drink. Whiskey isn’t my favorite unless it is in Manhattan. I prefer it served in a low ball glass of sturdy crystal. I make mine a bit weird with an orange twist AND a cherry.
Here is how…
- Combine 2 oz rye whiskey, 1/2 oz sweet vermouth, and 1/2 oz bitters in a shaker. Add ice and stir until chilled. DO NOT SHAKE!! Strain into a chilled glass. Garnish with a smashed maraschino cherry and an orange twist. I prefer to keep an ice cube in there to keep it super cold as I drink it. If you need it a bit sweeter try adding a splash of the cherry syrup from the jar. Enjoy!
